Altdöbern Cas­tle and Grounds

In the early 18th cen­tury, Gen­eral Alexan­der Diet­rich von Eick­st­edt from Sax­ony had a cas­tle built to replace an older moated cas­tle. About thirty years later, the three-winged, three-storey com­plex was con­verted in the rococo style by Carl Hein­rich von Heinekens. The grounds were also cre­ated in this time, based on French park design. In the late 19th cen­tury, parts of the grounds were remod­elled in the Eng­lish land­scape gar­den style that was pop­u­lar at the time. In addi­tion to the cas­tle itself, the com­plex includes a por­tal, cav­a­lier houses, the Marstall, an orangery and out­houses.
The prop­erty is owned by the organ­i­sa­tion “Bran­den­bur­gis­che Schlösser GmbH” and it is cur­rently being refur­bished. How­ever, vis­i­tors can enjoy the beau­ti­ful cas­tle grounds and out­side views of the cas­tle even now.
