Hoy­er­swerda Zoo

Ever watched a sloth eat­ing? Vis­i­tors to Hoy­er­swerda Zoo can expe­ri­ence ani­mals from six con­ti­nents up-close, includ­ing Carla the sloth and Günther the armadillo at show feed­ings in the trop­i­cal build­ing, or pay­ing a visit to Hilde the tame emu in her pen that she shares with the kan­ga­roos. This six-hectare, fam­ily-friendly zoo invites you on a trip around the world with around 1000 ani­mals and 120 dif­fer­ent species.
After­wards you can use your ticket to go on an inter­ac­tive trip back in time in the cas­tle, which is located in the zoo’s grounds. “Erleb­nis­Re­ich” brings his­tory and sto­ries to life with inter­ac­tive sta­tions and a minia­ture cas­tle. The state-of-the-art “LehrRe­ich” fea­tures a time lapse from the Sec­ond World War up to the mod­ern-day Lusa­t­ian Lake Dis­trict.
Hoy­er­swerda Zoo pro­vides school-ori­ented tours on a range of top­ics, pro­vid­ing school- and nurs­ery chil­dren with fas­ci­nat­ing and often sur­pris­ing insights into the world of our zoo ani­mals, as well as day-to-day life at the zoo, and the role that zoos play in pro­tect­ing the envi­ron­ment and endan­gered species.
