Bathing Area Lake Scheibe

Lake Scheibe belongs to the Lusa­t­ian Lake­land and was formed by ground­wa­ter ris­ing from the for­mer "Scheibe" open-cast mine. The lake has reached its final water level at around 111.5 m above sea level. In the west­ern part, espe­cially on the west­ern shore, the lake lies, so to speak, as a house-lake at the gates of the city of Hoy­er­swerda. 
 
For the first time in 2017, the city has been granted interim use for bathing from mid-May until Octo­ber each year. Thus, it is pos­si­ble to use about 120m of almost nat­ural beach, once 450m of beach length is planned. The approx­i­mately 10m wide strip of sand is main­tained once a year and serves as a beach and sun­bathing area. Car park­ing spaces are avail­able at a rel­a­tively short dis­tance from the bathing beach on the west­ern shore. 
 
The usable sec­tion "Bade­strand West­ufer Scheibe-See" can be reached via state road 108 from Hoy­er­swerda in the direc­tion of Niesky. Imme­di­ately out of town, behind the Kühnicht indus­trial estate on the left, is the access road to Lake Scheibe and, in the fol­low­ing right-hand bend, the for­mer S 108, which was dredged from the open-cast mine, with park­ing spaces and the tran­si­tion to the ser­vice road around the lake. From the park­ing spaces, it is a short walk along the ser­vice road to the beach access. 
 
Until san­i­tary facil­i­ties are built, there is a porta-potty at the turn­ing ramp of the road to Scheibe-See. At pre­sent, there are no cater­ing facil­i­ties. A play­ground is being planned. 
 
An invi­ta­tion to ten­der for a leased area has already been issued and will in all like­li­hood ensure a small gas­tro­nomic offer as a kiosk from next year.
